Standing on a 1,600 sqm land, Riverside Office is a project that tries to obtain the concept of an office park. The building length was oriented to north and south direction to minimize direct, harsh tropical sunlight. The west and east facade is decorated using local pattern, concrete vent block.
The building was developed from a pure rectangular box shape, that was “exploded” into smaller boxes and arranged back into a new configuration. The residual space becomes a void to allow natural light and air coming through inside the building. The overlapping mass becomes an open terrace to the above level.
Studio 2 in 1 accommodates the function of a home and a studio within one place. Located in an urban setting of Jakarta, it is seated in a small area of only 200 square meter. The project aims to elaborate the tropical, shaded, natural illuminated, and cross ventilation, breathing space regardless all the limitation of space.
The spaces in the house is created by two floating boxes of massing. The space in between the two boxes is used as functional area of the house. At the ground floor, the spaces below the floating boxes are used as open-space living and dining rooms, which is surrounded by a reflecting pool. The reflecting pool helps to create an imaginary visual reflection of the spaces above and also cools down the temperature inside the house.
The space in between the two boxes filter light to the lower spaces and also provide for the vertical circulation of the home. The staircase is designed with a pocket of opening to allow penetration of natural sunlight and also acts as the shading. Inside the boxes are the private areas of the house, which are the office studio, family room, and bedroom. Each room in the boxes has its individual windows to allow exchange of natural ventilation and sunlight into the rooms, which is very rare to find in a typical house with such small site area. With a creative play of mass and space, Studio 2 in 1 has successfully elaborated the idea of tropical space and embraced them into the modern style of living.
Gallery Studio is the office studio for TWS & Partners located in West Jakarta. It is a renovation project of a shophouse into a cozy and modern looking working studio. The challenge for the project is the limitation of material, budget and also time.
The facade represents a “metaphor” of the architect’s design process which shows collage and the use of multiple and collaborative lines forming a plane and also volume. It is rejuvenated with wire mesh cladding. Wire mesh is chosen as the main facade material because it is a very common “leftover” material which means it is cost efficient and also can be easily found. Wire mesh also has benefits of easily form together and lightweight. The cladding is made of 6 layers of wire mesh with different dimension and thickness which create a sublime volume. In the daylight, the wire mesh cladding will seem like a cloud, while at night time the cladding will be lit up creating a “lighting volume”.
The ground floor of the office consists of a lobby, meeting room, principle architect’s room, and service area. All these rooms are located on the ground floor to provide an easy access for guests and clients. Different use of materials in the corridor, such as corrugated polycarbonate, mirror on the wall, and vinyl flooring create a warm and inviting interior space. The upper floor is an open working space for staffs and also printing area. The idea is to improve working conditions and create cohesive spaces that yield efficiency and productive work flow.

The office is designed to be an office park space, which concept is for workers to be able to sit and walk in the gardens while doing their daily work. The ribbon of ‘living garden’ is wrapped around the main tower and continue to the back of the site, and acts as a creative space to encourage creativity and new ways of thinking. Conceptually, the green ribbon also represents a transition from high scale development on the main street, to low scale residential development at the back of the site.

Located in Kudus, Indonesia, The Bubble is an interior project that brings a fresh change to working environment. The main purpose is to improve the life and working quality of the office workers, based on the research of design + performance, how to improve working quality by improving working environment. The theme is taken from water bubbles. Like how air travels underwater, The Bubble brings nature inside office space, so that workers who work inside feel closer to nature.
Based on the two basic needs of human, which is interaction with other human and nature, The Bubble offers an open plan office concept to encourage communication between workers. The workstation is designed with the ability to create a private one-on-one communication as well as group communication by providing moveable sheers. In the open plan space, there is a mingling area called the forum. The forum is expected to encourage workers to gain more knowledge as 80% of innovative work is developed through personal communication and 5 times more knowledge is generated during conversation. Thus, pantry area suits as the forum space as this is where most workers have a rest.
The whole layout planning applies a free-flowing form where it creates a seamless boundary between indoor and outdoor, to offer the workers a feeling closer to nature, and provide a panoramic view out of the outdoors. The indoor and outdoor planting concept for the office is divided into 3 planting systems. The first is pergola system, where planter box is placed on the floor and plant grows up to the pergola. The second is vertical planting system which is applied to the column, creating “Green Column”. The last system is Vegetation Bulb system, which potted plants are placed in hanging glass aquariums, lit by light bulbs, and rotated outside once bi-weekly.
The outdoor space has a sloping deck to implement watering system pipe and create a special recreation space for the workers to have a rest or even a group meeting. The implementation of neutral colours such as grey and white is complemented by wood colour. This colour scheme chosen is the tool that tied the nature and man-made environment together. This green office concept is believed to improve the working performance and is set to be an example for other offices.
